As I have been expanding my knowledge of website design, I have come across some very valuable tools. One of which has been recently implemented into this site. That new tool is interactive 3D.
If you view my 3D character model from my Portfolio section, you will notice something new. It's a full 3D model, and you can look around it. This is done using a little thing called Shockwave. It's different from Flash for a few reasons; it's bitmap based, rather than vector based, and it fully supports 3D. The latter is the main reason I am using it. With the bandwidth available to consumers ever increasing, soon 3D content online will no longer be an issue of large file sizes. Soon, it will be a booming market, and I intend to be smack in the middle of it.
Unfortunately, being a new technology, my 3D viewer doesn't fully validate under the scrutiny of the W3C specifications. The main reason of which, is that the embed tag is needed to make it work in any browser other than Internet Explorer. I can honestly say this is one time that IE works a little better. (You will never hear me say that again.) Until there is a better way to embed the content, I will have to deal with this one invalidity.
Soon, you can look forward to seeing more 3D content that I've made coming on to this website. Look out for an Unreal Tournament level, and my upcoming 3D video game.
